Shoe Recommendations Based on Common Needs/Injuries

The next table illustrates how I would recommend shoes based on his needs or injuries:

(Disclaimer: Running Shoes do not cure injuries but may ease some pain)

Common Needs/Injuries

Recommendation

Rationale

Versatile shoe for all purposes

Firm but cushioned shoes

Enough cushion for longer runs but responsive and lightweight for faster runs

Plantar Fasciitis/

Achilles Tendonitis

Shoes with a high heel to toe drop

10-12mm

Higher drop shoes take some pressure of the Plantar Fascia/Achilles Tendon

Shin Splints (Medial)

Stability shoes with stability posts or guide rails

Stability shoes reduce pronation by a small amount by guiding the foot into a more neutral position which may relieve pain

Racing shoes for a Half Marathon

Shoes below 230grams while being cushioned

Racing shoes need to be light for easier leg turnover and need to be cushioned enough to protect the legs from the pavement pounding over a half marathon
